A collection of Tamil glyphs found in movie posters, and hand lettered walls in the streets of Chennai. This was an exercise to understand unique interpretations of glyphs while remaining true to form and meaning. My understanding of these forms would later be used in designing my own Tamil Typeface.

I looked to the native speakers in my home state of Tamil Nadu, who practiced lettering, political graffiti and sign painting. Tamilian lettering artists who predominantly speak and think in tamil push the limits of how legible and interpretable the script can be. Street lettering artist also adapt to the environment and space available to them. They can stretch and pull characters to adapt to any surface. This prompted me to catalogue street lettering and political graffiti to find unique glyph interpretations that adjust and adapt to the space.
